East meets West – Port Elizabeth to Cape Town – 10 days

What to expect...

Day 1 - Port Elizabeth to Addo – 250km

Departing Port Elizabeth we head straight to Addo Elephant Park. It’s a great warm up ride as we head out into the town of Uitenhage and onto the orange orchards of Addo and Sunland. Our 1st big beautiful dirt pass awaits, namely the Zuurberg Pass and we have a lunch at the Zuurberg Inn.

It’s down past Annes Villa and into Scotia where a Big 5 game drive awaits. We overnight at the park and experience supper under the stars in a 4 star tented village.

Day 2 – Addo Elephant Park to Graaff Reinet – 270km

Departing Addo on the way to Graaff Reinet. One of South Africa oldest towns founded in 1786. Our journey takes us along the Fish River with Cradock being our overnight stop. The lush vegetation that contrasts with the little Karoo desert offers one a real mixed bag of adventure riding and some great off roading on the Africa Twin.

The town aptly known as the Jewel of the Karoo is classified as a national monument and is a highlight of the trip.

Day 3 - Graaff Reinet to Knysna – 400km

It’s an easy traverse through the desert as we make our way through the towns of Aberdeen and into Willowmore. We can taste the world heritage site of Baviaanskloof as we skirt our way through a private farm on Jeep track to Uniondale.

Our adventure awaits as we do some off roading into Prince Alfreds Pass. This is a roller coaster ride of note as we descend on twisty gravel roads all the way through indigenous forests into the Indian ocean “Monaco of South Africa” … Knysna. We dine out at one of the many restaurants overlooking the beautiful estuary.

Day 4 - Knysna to Oudsthoorn – 320km

The best day by far on a bike. We leave Knysna and tackle 7 of the finest dirt passes including Phantom Pass, Karatara pass, Homtini Pass to name a few. It’s an awesome 100km’s till we descend into the city of George for lunch. It’s not over as we climb the Outeniqua pass and take a back road via Calitsdorp into Oudtshoorn.

Day 5 - Rest Day

A visit to the Kango Caves, Ostrich Farm or a ride out into the Swartberg can be decided on the day.

Day 6 - Oudtshoorn to Prince Albert - 480km

It’s a long hard day in the saddle as we start heading North and into the Gamkaskloof and the “The Hell” via Prince Albert Pass. Today is certain to be one of the tour's highlights as we ride through one of the most isolated areas in South Africa.

After a good lunch and lazing out in the valley, and possibly a swim in one of the rock pools, we'll head back out of the Hell to Prince Albert, for a great night at the Swartberg Hotel.

Day 7 – Prince Albert to Vleesbaai – 230km

Its back over Swartberg pass and into Matjiesrivier. Were now heading into Coetzeepoort pass and an incredible journey through farmlands, river crossings all the way till we reach the coastal town of Mossel Bay. Its offroad all the way with our next stop being Vleesbaai, a quaint fishing village with a 12km 4x4 sandune playground for the group to test their Dakar and sand riding skills.

Day 8 - Vleesbaai to Arniston - 235km

Hugging the coast this adventure takes us into Stilbaai and on good regional gravel roads until we get to Witsand. This is known as the Whale nursery of the South African coastline and whale sightings from the shore are plentiful. The mighty Breede River awaits and we have a cable pull ferry that will see us get our Africa Twins safely to the other side. From there its up and down and over till we reach Arniston

Day 9 - Arniston to Cedarberg – 391km

We head inland through the wine estates and apple orchards of Robertson and Montagu. A great day for massive tar passes as we wind our way through the back roads through Touws River and up into the infamous Cedarberg. This is adventure bike heaven and bodes well for our 2nd last day. We are going to save some of the Cedarberg for our last day.

Day 10 - Cedarberg to Cape Town – 401 km

Our trail takes us West to Langebaan through the De Hoek, its an easier day but truly beautiful. After a Langebaan lunch we travel south along the district roads and into the Honda dealership in Cape Town where we bid our Africa Twins farewell and are transported to our accommodation in Fish Hoek Cape Town.

A great evening planned at a local restaurant and a superb finish to this 10 day adventure
